Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") is a Japanese healing technique that focuses on the balancing and healing of energy flow and energy centers in the body. Two japanese words define the treatment.  Rei, which means 'spiritual consciousness' or 'God-consciousness' and ki, (which is also pronounced and sometimes spelled chi) which means 'life force energy'.

Unlike massage, which is hands on, a Reiki treatment is performed by placing the hands above energy centers located in the body.  A balance is created through the practitioner to the client, giving them a sense of well-being. A balanced energy system can help in the treatment of mind, body and spirit.  It may be linked to improvments in health and in the treatment of diseases.
