Now that winter is behind us and spring is in full bloom, it is time to get your body ready for summer. Soon it will be swimsuit season and you will be hitting the beach or the pool and showing off your body or maybe you have a wedding to attend. Either way, an airbrush tan might be the perfect solution for that sun kissed glow you’re looking for.
Prepping for an Airbrush Tan
It is important to prep your skin for an airbrush tan in order to get the best coverage and the most consistent results all over your body. Read the tips below to help you achieve great results from your airbrush tan.
Hydrate: it is important to hydrate your skin from the inside out. Drinking plenty of water is important to keep your skin subtle and smooth and ready for a tan. You will also want to hydrate your skin regularly by moisturizing after you shower, especially on your elbows, knees, hands and feet as those areas tend to get very dry.
Exfoliate: it is important to exfoliate before getting your spray tan. You can exfoliate in several ways, using a loofah during your shower, using a dry brush after showering, or using an exfoliating mitt. It is not necessary or recommended to exfoliate every day. Once every couple of days is enough and will not irritate your skin in the process. You can use a pumice on your feet daily if need be, but only on the drier areas such as your heels and balls of your feet. It is best if you can arrive for your appointment fresh from a shower with your skin free of any lotions, make-up, perfumes, or deodorant.
Nail & Waxing Services: It is best if all nail and waxing services are scheduled a day or two before your airbrush tan. These services tend to exfoliate your skin & will likely remove your tan if performed afterwards.
What to Wear: what to wear when spray tanning or after spray tanning? Here are a few insider tips that may work for you. It is recommended to wear dark cotton underwear during your airbrush tan. Since the solution tends to stain lycra it isn’t a good idea to wear bikini bottoms. Your top is optional, but whatever you leave on is where your tan lines will be. After you tan, if at all possible avoid tight fitting clothing. Ideally you will want to wear a loose fitting sundress or anything else that doesn’t hug the body too much and absorb the solution off your skin. You will want to pull your hair up in a ponytail holder if it is long during your tan as well to avoid having areas of your body that the tanning solution doesn’t reach, such as your neck and shoulders.
After Your Airbrush Tan
What to Avoid: right after your airbrush tan you will want to avoid any activities that might cause your tan to streak or fade. Wait at least 8 hours, but ideally 12 hours before showering and do not get your skin wet in between. This means avoid sweating, crying, getting caught in the rain, etc. When you do shower for the first time avoid long, hot showers and scrubing your skin, It is ideal to shower with a mild body wash & a soft wash cloth.
Moisturize: just as it is important to moisturize before you spray tan, it is also important to moisturize after, but not right after. Once you have waited at least 8 hours and have completed your showering routine, you will want to moisturize to keep your tan lasting longer.
